LOS ANGELES -- Not only is Clayton Kershaw set to begin a minor league rehab assignment this weekend, but outfielder Yasiel Puig is on his way back to the major leagues.Puig has been called up and will be with the Dodgers on Friday if travel goes well, sources told ESPNs Buster Olney. With major league rosters expanding to 40 on Thursday, the Los Angeles Dodgers?have recalled Puig from Triple-A Oklahoma City.On Wednesday, Dodgers manager?Dave Roberts said?Austin Barnes, Louis Coleman, Luis Avilan and Josh Ravin would be added immediately to the expanded roster this week. Roberts was unsure about Puig, who was demoted Aug. 2, one day after the club acquired outfielder Josh Reddick from the Oakland Athletics. Were still trying to figure out what is best for Yasiel, Roberts said Wednesday. Those are the names that initially will be here, but with Yasiel, that is still a possibility. But were still trying to figure out what is best for him and what is best for us.It might not have taken long for the Dodgers top brass to realize a right-handed bat such as Puigs is exactly what the team needs. The Dodgers have struggled against left-handed pitching this season and were nearly no-hit by San Francisco Giants lefty Matt Moore last week.Through Thursdays games, the Dodgers were last in the National League against left-handers in batting average (.218), on-base percentage (.297) and slugging percentage (.340).Puig is hitting .348 with four home runs and 12 RBIs in his Triple-A stint.?Meanwhile, Kershaw is headed to Single-A Rancho Cucamonga to continue his rehabilitation process from a back injury that has sidelined him since June 26, according to team president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman.Kershaw is expected to throw around 60 pitches and four or five innings for the Quakes, after throwing a two-inning simulated game earlier this week at Dodger Stadium. It was not specified what day Kershaw will pitch for Rancho Cucamonga. It is possible that Kershaw could return to the Dodgers on the next road trip, which starts Sept. 9 at Miami. NEW YORK -- Catch this: Buster Posey is the new Gold Glove backstop in the National League. The San Francisco Giants star unseated Yadier Molina behind the plate Tuesday when Rawlings announced its annual honors for fielding excellence. Posey was picked as the NL catcher, ending Molinas eight-year reign with St. Louis.I dont know if it makes it any more special or not that he had won it eight years in a row because I think Id be happy with it either way, Posey said on a conference call. This ones up there for me. Im a firm believer you win ballgames with pitching and defense.Posey was joined on the Gold Glove roster by a pair of Giants teammates, the double-play combination of shortstop Brandon Crawford and second baseman Joe Panik.Colorado third baseman Nolan Arenado won for the fourth consecutive year, and Arizona pitcher Zack Greinke took his third straight prize.Other winners in the NL were Atlanta center fielder Ender Inciarte, Pittsburgh left fielder Starling Marte, and first baseman Anthony Rizzo and right fielder Jason Heyward from the World Series champion Chicago Cubs.Young shortstop Francisco Lindor from AL champion Cleveland was a first-time winner, along with Texas first baseman Mitch Moreland, Detroit second baseman Ian Kinsler, New York Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner and Boston right fielder Mookie Betts.Kansas City catcher Salvvador Perez won his fourth Gold Glove in a row, Houston pitcher Dallas Keuchel took his third straight and Tampa Bay center fielder Kevin Kiermaier repeated from last year.ddddddddddddRangers third baseman Adrian Beltre was rewarded for the fifth time overall.Im pretty surprised an old man like me can win the Gold Glove, said the 37-year-old Beltre, who was thrilled Moreland won as well.I think Im happier for him than for me because for the last couple of years, he has played such a great defensive first base and was never recognized, Beltre said. Most of my mistakes are throwing the ball and Mitch has saved me so many errors and makes things look easier for me.The 22-year-old Lindor became the first Indians player to win a Gold Glove since outfielder Grady Sizemore in 2008, and their second shortstop after Omar Vizquel won every year from 1994-2001.Votes are submitted in September by managers and coaches who cannot choose their own players.
